Matthew Fox on Chi For Yourself

I was looking forward to talking with Matthew Fox..a.k.a. "Spiritual Maverick". Nowadays maverick is a word that gets tossed around like an Olive Garden salad. But, Matthew Fox has walked his talk- a member of the religious establishment until getting the heave ho' from the future Pope Benedict! He tells us what led to his expulsion from the Dominican Order, and he talks about his book "Christian Mystics" in the Chi For Yourself interview, which can be heard on the "Chee Vee" page. And, coming up soon on the audio page is the interview with Megan Don, who's written a book on the mysticism of Teresa of Avila.

Satur-Daze
Well, here it is, dark and early. And…..I’m still here! Obviously, so are you. So far no end of the world. Some are weeping, some are laughing, some are making tons of money off of this “end time” prediction. I can remember my best friend predicting a similar end time. On a Saturday too, no less. But that was in 1956, so scratch that prediction. In some ways this is all rather sad. Some folks just can’t get their arms around all the changes going on in the world. And with 2012 on the way we figure to see lots more bizarre stuff. Be advised that Chi For Yourself will be working to “cut through the clutter” as they say, to make sense of all of the craziness we’re bound to experience in the next 19 months. We’ll look for guests and topics that will reflect not only our more hopeful attitude, but also our feeling that shift happens- it’s happening now, and it’s all good.
Namaste

Memories Of Me

Couldn’t help noticing today’s (May 17th) Daily Om..you’ll find it on the Chi For Yourself home page. The theme is remembering who we really are. I don’t know where (or if!) you stand on the spiritual scale, but today’s D.O. message echos our intention behind every effort we make on Chi For Yourself- and that’s to help you live a genuine life. A life that’s not dictated by society’s pressures, or those of family, friends, or “tribal” customs. Give it a read today, and keep that inner connection alive!

Thank Goodness It’s Friday…the 13th!

Well, here we are. Another Friday the 13th. Maybe it’s just my contrarian nature but Friday the 13th always turns out to be a good day for me. You might even say “lucky”, though for me lucky is a loaded word. Think about it. Where does this thing called luck (bad or good) come from? Ask yourself these questions. Am I feeling stuck in my life? Am I living a repetitive cycle that I can’t break? Stop for a second and consider whether you are playing a role in this recurring “problem”. You may not realize that you are constantly making choices about how to process your situation. Are those choices based on past and present circumstances? Know that you have a hand in creating your own life. When you choose to live in this state of awareness you experience a freedom that lets you make better choices. Choices that can propel you toward the life you want to live. I’m reminded of the old adage: “luck is the residue of design”. Take it to heart and you’ll find that every Friday is a good Friday.

View To A Kill

As I write this I am in a direct line of sight of a magazine rack displaying the current Time Magazine. On the cover is a picture of the late Osama bin Laden with a red X drawn through the face. If you’re like me, you’re still trying to sort out your feelings about the whole thing. Now, I consider myself a believer in the rule of law. But the whole mission left me wondering about how and why it really was carried out- questions I’ll leave for another blog. What is more unsettling is our reaction to bin Laden’s death. A friend posted on her Facebook page: “..wish I had been there to see the devil die”..Words like ‘devil’ and its little brother ‘evil’ pop up regularly in our culture. They just roll off the tongue. And, they fuel the fire for another oft-used word: justice. I heard a veteran who joined the vets for peace movement discuss the bin Laden hit aftermath on a radio talkshow. His context was the lust for revenge mood in the west. He closed his comments by saying “..we have become them”. If so, what does that say about our state of mind/consciousness?

Put Consciousness Into Motion

After the very encouraging interview with Marc Allen I thought I’d add some remarks of my own. You may feel that you can’t duplicate in your life the huge abundance that came Marc’s way. You may feel that you really don’t want those kinds of things to come your way, at least not on that scale. It could be that you’re shooting for good ol’ garden variety happiness. You’ve read lots of books, memorized lots of slogans, but still no results.

We’ll begin, well, at the beginning. Know that you deserve to be happy and successful. Fixate on that idea. We can have a tough time believing this because life seems to tell us otherwise.

Several simple steps can act as mood enhancers:

Do one thing that really makes you feel alive. Something that fills you with the good chi. Maybe it’s working in the garden. Maybe it’s preparing something in the kitchen. Set aside some time for this. The daily regimen can drain you of essential life energy, bringing on boredom and unhappiness. It doesn’t matter what you decide to do, only that it’s something that you really enjoy.

Turn your focus outward. You might be spending so much time on yourself that you’re actually setting yourself up for unhappiness. It doesn’t have to be monetary giving. Give time to Big Brothers/Sisters, or to the Braille Institute’s Talking Books program. Volunteer to help a program that feeds the poor. These efforts break up your dull routine and give you something different to look forward to. You’ll make someone’s day- maybe a lot of someones. Putting it out there insures that it will come back to you. It’s the (Universal) law. Giving to and helping others is something that’s always worked for me.

Action can bring dramatic results. The commercial tells us to “just do it”. Pick something you associate with feeling good, then put one foot in front of the other toward its completion. Albert Einstein said “nothing happens until something moves”. Be the mover and watch things happen in your life.

The Marc Allen interview is submitted for your approval. You can hear it on the audio page. I like the fact that it’s not just about getting “stuff”. Marc has a good handle on what’s really important in life.

With all the medicating that goes on in our culture (often contributing to ill health) it’s worth checking out alternative methods toward better health. This article appeared on bewellbuzz.com:

What’s Your Reaction?

Our dependence on modern medicines has led to a boom in the pharmaceutical sector, and it’s sad to note how closely the two are related. Read more..

Since the beginning of Chi For Yourself we’ve heard from some outstanding guests, each with at least one juicy morsel of wisdom to add to your manifesting buffet.

On the next show you’ll hear the account of a man who put several Universal Laws to work and created a life that many people only dream about.

New World Library publisher and president Marc Allen will share his story- a real turnaround if ever there was!

I’m skipping out, momentarily, of a new book webcast. There are some interesting books being offered by a range of audio and print publishing companies. I’m keeping my ears open for some titles (and, of course, guests!) that may interest you.

Well, gotta go..

Ready..set..2011!

We’re off to the resolution races- lose 20 pounds..move to a nicer address..take that tropical vacation.

May I suggest some inward inspection to start the new year?

What is happening in my life?
How is my health?
How is/are my relationships? Really, how are they?
How are my finances?
Do I enjoy my work?
Just a few ideas to take care of the inner self so that the outer results might be more satisfying.

Happy New Year!

Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

by Gio

This political campaign stuff is getting tedious, isn't it? Accusations and counter- accusations. Well, just a few more days..Yes, this page looks different. The regular blog is in the shop, and we're hoping to have it repaired. Meanwhile, we'll keep a positive attitude. This is a good point to remind ourselves that, while it's not the only factor in success, a positive attitude keeps you afloat when other boats are sinking around you. Theo McLanahan has some thoughts..

How Thinking Positive Can Make Your Life A Lot More Successful

by Theo McLanahan

Thinking positive may sound like gibberish to some but others are firm believers. Faced with problems or challenges, thinking positive can help you achieve the best.

Staying positive, even in the face of adversity, can help you conquer challenges. When you think positively, you are envisioning your success. Failure will not be an option; you will move past the obstacles in your way. When a person thinks positively, they will attract positive people and positive outcomes in their life.

When you find yourself facing a roadblock, try to find a way around it. It can be easy to give up. Giving up will not bring you any closer to accomplishing your goals. In fact, giving up can make you feel even worse and cause more stress.

Reaching your goals and accomplishing tasks will make you evolve as a person. You will exhibit more confidence and accept new challenges.

You can't change your way of thinking overnight. Big changes can come from taking small steps.

When you wake up in the morning, envision a few positive thoughts. Imagine yourself having a great day. Think about all of the wonderful things that will be happening to you. Imagine yourself attracting new clients or being contacted by a reporter who wants to feature you in a magazine story.

You may want to consider creating a "dream board" or a "dream book". Write out all the things you would like to accomplish. Look through magazines and find pictures that correspond with those goals. When you find a picture you like, cut it out and pin it to a bulletin board or paste it into a scrapbook.

Don't limit your ideas. If you have a picture of a house that you love, put it on your board. Is there a car you've always wanted or a place you'd love to travel?

Take a moment each day to look at your dream board or flip through your dream book. Think positive thoughts such as "one day, I will own that car" or "one day, I will take a vacation here". This can inspire you and motivate you to work hard and achieve success. Your dream book is giving you a glimpse of your rewards. Now, it is up to you to take action. - 2274
